Aachener Dom or Aachen Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church located in the city of Aachen, Germany. The cathedral is known as 'the Coronation Church of the German kings' and was built as the church of Charlemagne's Palatine Chapel starting in 792 AD. The cathedral is a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles, with an preservation of Charlemagne's core structure at the center. The cathedral features towering spires, a high ceiling and some of the most exquisite stained glass windows you will find. Inside you can find artifacts related to Charlemagne himself. Aachener Dom is one of just three sites in Germany to be listed as both a World Heritage and Cultural Heritage site. The cathedral is certainly a must-see and photographers will appreciate the medieval architecture and awe-inspiring interiors.
