Aachen Cathedral, or the Imperial Cathedral, is an impressive late-Romanesque and early-Gothic building situated in the heart of Aachen, Germany. Built between 796–814, it is the oldest cathedral in northern Europe and one of the oldest churches in Germany. Inside, visitors will find a treasure trove of historic artifacts and religious monuments, including a gorgeous 18th-century rococo high altar and stunning 14th-century stained glass windows. Outside it stands a square bell tower with a gilded spire that rises up over 118 feet above the ground. The Cathedral regularly hosts many religious and cultural events, and the surrounding square is a hotspot of activity and a great place to watch the world go by. It is definitely a must-see for any visitor to this beautiful German city.
