Ayasofya Camii, also known as the Hagia Sophia, is a world-renowned church located in the Binbirdirek district of Istanbul, Turkey. It was originally built in 537 AD as a Christian basilica, and later transformed into an Ottoman imperial mosque in 1453. The Ayasofya has a stunning and enduring exterior, having stood for more than 1,500 years. The dome is 55 m (180 ft) high, with a diameter of 30.86 m (101.2ft). Its impressive height is designed to symbolize the heavens and the power of the Ottoman state. Inside, Ayasofya features a distinctive double-shelled dome, while its walls and ceilings are decorated with beautifully preserved Byzantine-era mosaics and frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. It is an amazing sight to behold. Ayasofya is now a museum located in Sultanahmet Square. Visitors can tour the interior, and learn about its history and significance. The changing of light throughout the day combined with its large interior makes Ayasofya an impressive spot to photograph.
