The Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery is one of the most renowned and venerable Orthodox monasteries in Russia. It's also one of the oldest, and was founded during the time of Isaac of Novgorod in the mid-15th century. The monastery is based in the village of Savvinskaya Sloboda, which lies in the Rostov region, not far away from the city of Yaroslavl. The layout of the grounds is remarkable, featuring two churches, a refectory, a bell tower, a belfry, and a museum, all enclosed by a massive white wall. The main complex is comprised of the Theotokos Church, the Transfiguration Church, and the John the Baptist Church. Other highlights within the monastery grounds include a pair of clover-shaped-bell towers and a century-old cast-iron gate. The monastery is also home to a library with over 40,000 volumes of books and manuscripts, which makes it one of the biggest libraries in the area. The architecture of the monastery is mostly early Russian and Byzantine. Several centuries-old mosaics and frescoes still adorn the walls of the churches, making it a truly spiritual and inspiring place. There's also an amazing view across the fields and rivers. Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery is a great place to go for anyone who wants to experience true Russian history and culture.
