The majestic Shahi Zinda Complex in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, is an impressive complex of mausoleums from the 9th to 15th century. The star of the show is the Mečet' Šahi-Zinda (Mosque of the Living King) and its gilded minarets. Also known as "Richard the Lionheart Mausoleum", this structures and its beautiful tiled walls and façades have been expertly preserved. The complex also houses many other elaborate mausoleums, some featuring intricate Islamic motifs and patterns with geometric shapes.
