Komodo Island is a large island located in Indonesia's Nusa Tenggara province. It's renowned for its iconic Komodo dragons, which measure 3 metres (10 feet) long and live up to 40 years. Komodo Island, along with neighbouring Rinca and Padar, forms Komodo National Park, home to some of the world's richest marine life. Visitors can take a dive, go snorkeling, or book a tour to interact with Komodo dragons. Komodo National Park is protected by UNESCO, serving as a vital natural habitat not only to the Komodo dragons but also to a multitude of bird species, coral and fish, and wild water buffalo, deer, macaques, Timor pigs, and the endemic rat – the only one of its kind in the world. There are plenty of picturesque beaches, dramatic hills, and stunning views of the ocean to explore, or visitors can just relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The park also offers camping options and a number of lodges. The gateway to the park is Labuan Bajo, a small port on the western tip of Flores island.
