The Portuguese Cannon, located in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, is an interesting remnant from the period of Oliver Cromwell’s invasion in 1650. It is quite unusual for Edinburgh as it was brought by an English soldier who was sent by Cromwell to subdue Scotland but also had a keen interest in collecting particular antiquities from conquered foreign lands. This European gun from Portugal is still operational and can be seen atop Edinburgh Castle. It provides a unique view of the city, making it a popular photography spot for travelers.
