Temple of Canova
📍 Italy
The Temple of Canova is a neoclassical building that stands in the small town of Possagno, in the Veneto region of Italy. It was designed by Italian sculptor Antonio Canova and built between 1819 and 1824. The building is dedicated to the memory of Canova, who was born in the town and was buried in the crypt beneath the temple upon his death in 1822. The temple itself features a range of classical columns, which soar upwards to a magnificent dome on the top. Inside, visitors will find a collection of Canova’s works of art, such as a colossal statue of Romulus and Remus, statues of Apollo and Mars, and a selection of reliefs, altars and inscriptions. The temple provides an impressive insight into Canova’s life and work, and is sure to capture the attention of photographers and visitors alike.
