Sistine Chapel

The Sistine Chapel is a famous religious site and has been a destination for pilgrims and tourists for centuries. Located in Vatican City, this architectural masterpiece was famously painted by Michelangelo, and it is the site of Papal Conclaves, where new Popes are chosen and coronated. As this is a Christian site of worship, photography is not permitted inside, and all visitors need to remain respectful. Outside, however, the beauty of the architecture, scale and detail of the building can be appreciated. The walls are decorated with works of art from renowned masters, and the chapel is often used by the Pope for special Masses and events. Make sure to arrive early to the Chapel, as access is controlled and once filled, no additional visitors are allowed in.
