San Francisco Bay

San Francisco Bay is a large estuary in Northern California, in the US. It is connected to the Pacific Ocean and extends from the San Francisco Peninsula to the cities of Oakland and San Jose. Spanning approximately 81 miles and with a depth of up to 13 feet, San Francisco Bay is the largest estuary in the western United States by area. The dozens of small islands and marshes of the bay provide visitors with an array of seascapes and wildlife experiences. The shores of the bay are also lined with stunning beaches, rolling hills and photogenic quaint towns. Among the most popular activities enjoyed in the bay region is sailing, with several marinas located in Oakland and San Francisco. Visitors can also take part in one of the many guided tours that explore the bay's wildlife and bird watching sites, and can rent kayaks to explore their own areas of the bay.
