Nitriansky hrad

Nitriansky castle and Nitrianska Calvary located in the town of Nitra in Slovakia are two of the most important and iconic symbols of the thousands of years of the town's history. The castle is now a museum and boasts a spectacular view over Nitra and the surrounding countryside. The castle houses several exhibitions about the region’s history as well as paintings, ceramics, weaponry and archaeological finds. The 9th century fortifications and lookout tower make it one of the most important castles in Slovakia. The 18th century Nitrianska Calvary, situated on the slopes of Antolsky Ridge, is an important part of the town’s history. It was built by the Augustinian Brotherhood in honour of the Virgin Mary and consists of three chapels connected by a Baroque arch and adorned with ceramic reliefs.
