It was established in 2006 and occupies an area of approximately 62,000 hectares, making it the second largest national park in Flanders. Park visitors can find a great wealth of geological, botanical and cultural attractions, including ancient forests and grasslands, limestone areas, sandstone heaths and pine forests. Visitors may explore the park on foot, by bike or in the summer months, take part in boat trips. The park is home to numerous species of flora and fauna, including Roe Deer and Wild Boar, white storks, buzzards, grass snakes, frogs, toads and lizards. There are several information centers, located in various places throughout the park, to provide visitors with information about the park and its facilities.
