Hameln

Hameln, located in the German state of Lower Saxony, is best known for 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin'. The city is one of the oldest in the region and its beautiful old town is full of half-timbered buildings, cobblestoned streets and charming shops. Some of the most famous attractions include Hameln's historic 13th-century church, St. Bonifacius, which houses the well-preserved Black Book of Hameln, a city chronicle dating to 1350. The beautiful Marktkirche, built in 1296 and featuring distinctive stepped gables, is another popular site.
