Sungnyemun

Sungnyemun also known as Namdaemun is the Great South Gate of Seoul’s fortress wall and is Korea's National Treasure number 1. This traditional wooden structure was first built in 1398 and is now a popular tourist attraction with its beautiful iron doors, goldfish pond and towers over the former Namdaemun market. Sungnyemun has stood the test of time and was even rebuilt in the 1960s after having been destroyed by fire. Take in the sight of this South Gate and feel the history that surrounds it. Many locals come here to wish for blessings. The KBS TV Hall of Fame, Topokki Town, Korea Stamp Museum and Seoul Story Hotel are all nearby.
