The Fyrish Monument is a striking 18th century monument situated on top of a hill in the picturesque Highland Council region of the United Kingdom. The statue was erected as a tribute to local military leader and politician Sir Hector Munro by his close friend Sir Francis Grant in 1782. The panoramic views from its summit are worth the climb and make it a popular spot among photographers and nature lovers alike. The monument sits atop a stepped pyramid of hard basalt, configured to resemble a stairway of 500 steps leading up to the observatory with its grand entrance gate. Along the way, visitors can take in the stunning views of the Cromarty Firth demonstrating how strategically placed Hector Munro placed his own artillery on the hilltop in 1746. If you are feeling adventurous, you can even visit the nearby Cave Kirk, a nearby cave that served as a secret place of worship during the religious persecutions of the 17th century.
