Duncansby Head Lighthouse is an active lighthouse located at the easternmost point of the British main island in Caithness, Scotland. Built in 1924, the lighthouse is constructed from red sandstone taken from a nearby quarry. Visitors can explore the surrounding area, including the nearby Duncansby Stacks, a group of basalt rock columns, remnants of an ancient volcanic sea stack. The surrounding cliffs are also home to birds such as the puffin and the guillemot. Visitors can also spot some rare species of fish in the area. Walking paths provide access to all the features of the area. A visit to the lighthouse is not only a great way to learn about a piece of very important maritime history, but also to marvel at the beauty of the surrounding landscapes of Scotland.
