It starts at Central Station and heads north, serving as a gateway to the city's shops, restaurants, and attractions. On the east side you'll find Dam Square and the Beurs van Berlage, while on the west side stands the Royal Palace and the Nieuwe Kerk ("New Church"). Just south of the palace, stretching from Damrak to the Amstel River, is the famous 9 streets shopping district. Damrak Brug is among the oldest bridges in Amsterdam, and also one of the busiest. Built in 1670, the bridge suspension bridge spans over the Singelsgracht, connecting the Damrak with the Nieuwendijk, another popular shopping street.
