The Basilika St. Martin (St. Martin’s Church) in Amberg, Germany, is a notable example of the Bavarian Baroque style. It was completed in 1744 and is unique due to its oval layout, a rare sight in Bavaria. The church's 79 metre tower stands proudly above the city and there's a 360-degree view to be had from the top. Step inside the church and you'll find a rich vista of impressive vaulting and lavishly gilded Baroque décor. Look out for two paintings by Johann Schmidt, commissioned by the Amberg patrician family, Geuder. Also look out for the "oratorio crucifix", created by the painter Johann Evangelist Holzer in 1791. The church is the spiritual heart of the city and well worth taking a look at for its impressive layout and rich interiors.
