Basilica of Our Lady

The Basilica of Our Lady is a historic Catholic church in the small commune of Le Folgoët in northwest France. Finished in 1895 and since then counted as one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Brittany, it houses the venerated statue of Our Lady of Folgoët, an wooden effigy of the Virgin Mary. This effigy dates all the way back to 1450, and is believed to possess miraculous powers. The basilica stands 57m tall and has two towers richly decorated with marble and bas relief carving. The main facade is a great canvas of pink sandstone with a large rose window, flanked by two turrets. Inside the church itself, it is adorned with several stained glass windows, several baroque style altars and crypts. The basilica of Our Lady is the major attraction of Le Folgoët and is well worth a visit.
