Santuario Madonna di San Luca

The Sanctuario Madonna di San Luca is a 17th century church located in Bologna, Italy. It sits atop Colle della Guardia, offering a majestic overlook of the city below. Visitors come to experience its breathtaking architecture, multiple Baroque sculptures, and the Via della Madonna, a 4.2km arcaded alley lined with 666 arches that leads from the center of Bologna all the way up to the chapel. The walls of the alleyway provide shade from the sun and are decorated with several paintings. According to tradition, the church was constructed to remember a sacred image of the Madonna which, according to oral tradition, was found by two shepherds near the city in the 11th century.
