Monument a la ciutat de Mataró

The Monument a la Ciutat de Mataró and Plaça de l'Ajuntament in Mataró, Spain is an iconic monument situated right in the center of the city. An obelisk stands in the middle, flanked by larger statues of art and four pedestals. The monument was designed in 1917 by the renowned architect Josep Puig, who drew inspiration from ancient Egyptian and Mediterranean art. The obelisk displays two statues of the Eixample district, Mataró and Saint Esteve de Montclar. Surrounding the obelisk, the four pedestals represent hospitality and the growth of Mataró and its inhabitants. The structures located around the obelisk are the Monument a la Cartesiana, a fountain, and benches and flower beds. This public space is a popular attraction for tourists and locals, who come here for a picturesque stroll.
