Monte Generoso

Monte Generoso is a mountain located in the Ticino region of Switzerland. It is the southernmost peak of the Alps, and it stands at an impressive 1,716 metres. It is situated in the Mendrisio municipality and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region.

The summit of the mountain offers stunning views, with alpine peaks to the north, Lake Lugano and the Italian border to the south, and the historic city of Bellinzona to the west. There are many ways to access the peak, including a railway which departs from Capolago and a hiking trail from Ristorante al Generoso. On the mountain's pinnacle there is a hotel, a restaurant, a terrace and a viewing tower. The so-called "Goldegger-Lounge" offers visitors a comfortable setting for refreshments. There is also a play area for children at the summit. At the base of the mountain, two trails of differing lengths lead to a beautiful viewpoint at the Oberalpsee. The trails are are well-maintained, and they provide an easy but rewarding hike suitable for all ages.
