Dettifoss River

Dettifoss is the most powerful waterfall in Europe, located in the north-east of Iceland. It is a part of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river, which flows through the bleak and dramatic landscape of Vatnajökull National Park. Due to its immense size and deafening roar, this magnificent waterfall is an impressive sight. From the view point a large panorama of the thundering force of cascading waters and the surrounding rock-strewn landscape can be seen. To walk up close to the edge of the falls is an experience unto its own. The visitors should bring an all game weather clothing and good footwear as it is quite muddy and wet. To get to Dettifoss you can take Route 862 which leads right to the rim of the falls.
