Capitol

The Capitol in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is the state capital building of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It was designed by renowned Philadelphia architect Joseph Huston, and it is an excellent example of the Beaux Arts style of architecture. The grounds surrounding the Capitol are home to a number of monuments and memorials, including statues of former Pennsylvania governors, a statue honoring Pennsylvania veterans of the Civil War, and a monument commemorating the nation’s first responders. Inside the interior visitors may find a series of murals and stained glass, as well as bronze reliefs which depict the state’s history. Guided tours are available, and visitors can explore the historic chambers of the General Assembly and see the Capitol Rotunda and its grand staircase. The Capitol Complex is also home to a number of other museum and gallery spaces. The Capitol Café offers a range of food, beverages and desserts made from locally sourced ingredients.
