Asís

Asís, Italy, is home to San Francisco de Asís Basilica, the birthplace of St. Francis of Assisi. The basilica's interior is painted by Giotto, and its exterior is decorated with frescoes by various other Italian Renaissance painters. On one side of the basilica is the town, Asís, which is filled with narrow lanes, cobbled streets, wonderful restaurants and shops, and plenty of accommodation. Other important sights in Asís include the Santa Chiara church, the Duomo, and the Santa Maria degli Angeli church. Visit the Roman Temple of Minerva, the Rocca Maggiore castle, and the San Damiano church, which is where St. Francis received his spiritual call to become a leader of the Franciscan movement.
