St. Pauli Elbtunnel

St. Pauli Elbtunnel is located in Hamburg, Germany as a part of the Port of Hamburg. The Elbtunnel, as it is known colloquially, is the only tunnel in the city of Hamburg and is a great way to explore this historic port city from the water. Its construction began in 1907 and the tunnel was opened in 1911. This particular piece of engineering feat allows pedestrians and cyclists to traverse the Elbe River, which borders the city to the north. The tunnel has a length of approximately 300 meters and features an impressive inner shell made of glazed tiles, an art nouveau masterpiece.
