Pir-e-Sabz is a historic Zoroastrian fire temple in the town of Chak Chak, Iran. It has been in continuous use by members of the faith since 640 AD, making it arguably one of the oldest surviving places of worship in continuous use. It is particularly important to Zoroastrians due to its proximity to the renowned mountain of Mount Sabalan, a sacred symbol for the faith. The temple is made up of two levels, both of which feature a rectangular courtyard, with the first level also featuring a deep well. The inner sanctum of the temple contains a large fire-pit in which devotional fires are tended. It is believed that this inner sanctum was originally used to accommodate groups of pilgrims, who would journey to the temple to seek blessings and spiritual guidance on their lives. Visitors to the temple are welcome to explore both levels, and to appreciate the beauty of its stone-carved walls, the age-old architecture and the calm atmosphere of the courtyard.
