Museum of Islamic Art

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, Qatar, is a major national museum located on the waterfront promenade of Doha Bay. Home to a comprehensive collection of Islamic art and artifacts, the museum showcases over 14 centuries of creativity, history and cultural heritage. The museum's mission is to promote the understanding and appreciation of Islamic art and culture through the display of a quality selection of Islamic art works and collections representative of more than one region and period. MIA houses rare and exceptional pieces from Syria, Turkey, Iran, India, Spain and Egypt among other countries, dating from the 7th century to the early 19th century. The items on display range from illuminated manuscripts and Qurans to metalwork, carpets, ceramics and paintings. The museum also hosts a range of lectures, talks and workshops as well as regular exhibitions. The museum's architecture is an attraction in itself, having been designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei.
