The Church of Santa Mattia is a 16th century church situated in the heart of Lecce, Italy. Founded by the Order of Friars Minor and built on top of a temple of Isis, it stands tall and impressive. It features a Baroque facade with two bell towers and a rose window. It is home to a remarkable collection of artworks, from the 14th century frescoes by Antelami to the 17th century marble altar dedicated to the Apostle Matthew. Inside, one will find tombstones of the 18th century Lecce and Gagliano families, as well as a painting of the Coronation of the Virgin and beautiful ornamental frescoes. The church is open to the public and is available for Mass and church ceremonies. It also serves as an active community hub, and hosts concerts and art exhibitions.
